E-Waste Recycling

E-Waste Recycling Services for Businesses in India

When computers, servers and office electronics reach the end of their life, they still contain valuable materials, and some hazardous ones. Recycling is how those materials are recovered safely and put back to use instead of ending up in a landfill or an informal scrap yard.

Best Tech Reformers Pvt. Ltd. recycles corporate e-waste for organizations across India. We collect your equipment, destroy the data on it, separate it into material streams and give you documentation that shows where it went.

What Is E-Waste Recycling?

E-waste recycling is the process of turning discarded electronic equipment into reusable raw materials. Devices are taken apart, hazardous components are removed, and the remaining material is separated into metals, plastics, glass and other fractions that can go back into manufacturing.

Recycling reduces the demand for freshly mined and manufactured materials, keeps toxic substances out of soil and water, and lowers the waste sent to landfill. It is the last step after reuse and refurbishment, used for equipment that can no longer serve a useful purpose.

Why E-Waste Should Be Recycled, Not Dumped

It contains hazardous substances

Electronics can contain lead, mercury, cadmium and brominated flame retardants. Older monitors may contain leaded glass or mercury-containing backlights, and batteries need careful handling. If these items are dumped, burned or broken up without controls, the substances can reach the soil, water and air.

It contains valuable materials

Circuit boards, cables and casings hold copper, aluminium, steel, plastics and small amounts of precious metals. Recovering them is more resource-efficient than extracting the same materials from ore.

It holds your data

Storage devices keep information long after a device stops working. Recycling must start with secure data destruction, otherwise the equipment is a data leak waiting to happen.

How E-Waste Recycling Is Done: Step by Step

01

Collection, Sorting and Asset Verification

Equipment is collected from your premises and counted against your inventory. Items are sorted by type, such as computers, servers, networking gear, printers, batteries and accessories, and by condition. Anything that can still be reused is set aside for refurbishment.

02

Secure Data Destruction

Before any dismantling begins, hard drives, SSDs and other data-bearing devices are processed using secure data destruction procedures. This protects your confidential information before the equipment is broken down.

03

Manual Dismantling

Trained staff take the equipment apart by hand. Hazardous and critical components, such as batteries, toner cartridges, capacitors and backlights, are removed first so they do not contaminate the rest of the material. Valuable parts such as memory modules, drives and circuit boards are separated for specialist processing.

04

Shredding and Size Reduction

Once hazardous components are out, the remaining material is crushed and shredded into small fragments. This is done in industrial equipment with dust and emission controls, so that the pieces can be sorted efficiently in the next stage.

05

Material Separation

The shredded material passes through a series of separators. Magnets pull out iron and steel. Eddy current separators push out non-ferrous metals such as aluminium and copper. Air and density separation divides lighter plastics from heavier metal fractions. The result is a set of clean, sorted material streams.

06

Refining and Material Recovery

Metal-rich fractions, including those from circuit boards, are refined so the metals can be recovered and sold on as secondary raw materials. Plastics are processed for reuse where suitable. Fractions that cannot be recovered are conditioned for safe final disposal.

07

Safe Disposal of Residue

Whatever cannot be recycled, such as certain hazardous residues, is sent to an authorised final disposal facility rather than a landfill or open dump.

What Gets Recovered from E-Waste

  • Iron and steel from chassis, racks, casings and drive enclosures
  • Aluminium from heat sinks, frames and casings
  • Copper from cables, wiring, transformers and circuit boards
  • Precious metals such as gold, silver and palladium in small quantities from circuit boards and connectors
  • Plastics from housings, keyboards and peripherals
  • Glass from displays and older monitors
  • Battery materials from UPS and device batteries, handled through specialised channels

How We Recycle Different Types of Equipment

Computers and Laptops

Data-bearing parts are destroyed first. Usable machines may be refurbished. The rest are dismantled, with memory, boards and drives separated for recovery.

Servers and Storage Arrays

Drives are secured and destroyed, then racks and chassis are stripped. Servers contain a high share of recoverable metals, including copper and aluminium.

Networking and Telecom Equipment

Routers, switches, firewalls and IP phones are wiped or destroyed, then dismantled. Circuit boards are separated for metal recovery.

Printers, Copiers and Scanners

Toner cartridges and batteries are removed and handled separately. Frames, motors and plastics are then processed.

UPS Systems and Batteries

Batteries are removed intact and sent for specialised treatment. Casings and electronics are then dismantled.

Monitors and Displays

Monitors are dismantled carefully so that backlights and other hazardous parts are removed before glass, plastics and metals are separated.

Reuse First: Refurbishment Before Recycling

The best recycling outcome is often not recycling at all. Equipment that is still in working or repairable condition is tested, repaired and refurbished so it can be used again, which keeps its full value in circulation. Only equipment that cannot be reused goes into the recycling process described above.

Formal Recycling vs Informal Scrap Dealers

Handing e-waste to an informal scrap dealer may be convenient, but it creates problems that a formal recycling process avoids.

  • Data: drives may be resold or discarded with the data still on them, while a formal process destroys data first.
  • Safety: informal breaking and burning of cables or boards releases toxic fumes and exposes workers, while a formal process removes hazardous parts and controls emissions.
  • Recovery: informal methods lose much of the recoverable material, while a formal process separates and refines it.
  • Records: a scrap dealer rarely provides paperwork, while a formal recycler gives you documentation for audits.

How to Choose an E-Waste Recycler

When comparing recyclers, ask these questions:

  • Do they hold the authorisation that applies to e-waste handling in India?
  • How do they destroy data, and will they confirm it in writing?
  • Do they provide itemized asset records and a recycling certificate?
  • Where is the material processed, and what happens to residue?
  • Do they hold environmental certification such as ISO 14001?
  • Can they handle your volume and your locations?

Best Tech Reformers is happy to answer all of these. Learn why ISO 14001 matters.

Documentation You Receive

  • Asset pickup acknowledgement
  • Asset verification report with an itemized inventory
  • Data destruction confirmation
  • Recycling or disposal certificate
  • Commercial documents such as quotations and invoices, where applicable
  • Records to support audits and ESG or sustainability reporting
